The HEART of the lodge

Every guest who has ever visited the lodge will tell you the same things – the food is fantastic; and don’t expect to not pick up a kg or 3…

We believe that every facet from the game drives, the food, the staff, the service (the list is endless) together, forms the Nedile we know and love.  Thus it is of the utmost importance that we ensure everything is always fresh and home made from the kitchen, as this is the heart of any lodge.  So, you can indulge in homemade muesli at breakfast, our own tomato-chilli-jam at lunch or a slice of decadent Amarula Caramel tart for dessert in the evening.

All of this is made possible daily by our 2 longest standing staff members – Mapula Magagane & Minky Thwala.  They joined the lodge 13 years ago as cleaners, from the start however we couldn’t keep them out of the kitchen!  As a passion for cooking was evident in both, we honed their skills under some executive chefs, and these two turned into everyone’s most favourite people at the lodge.

So, we’ve twisted their arms for one of our classic recipes – Nedile’s Breakfast Muesli

2 cups Oats

2 cups Corn flakes

2 cups All Bran flakes

1 cup Mixed nuts (we use Almonds, Cashews, Walnuts & hazelnuts)

½ cup Mixed seeds (we use sesame-, pumpkin-, sunflower- and linseeds.)

¼ cup Poppy seeds

1 cup Honey

 

Mix everything together in an oven tray and sprinkle honey over.  Roast the mixture @ 150C until golden brown.  Careful not to burn, so stirring continuously is advisable.

When it’s done and cooled off you can add 1 ½ cups of raisins or sultana’s.
